US Condemns Deadly Attack on Cameroonian Soldiers in Lake Chad Basin

The United States has strongly condemned the killing of Cameroonian soldiers who were serving in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Nigeria’s Lake Chad Basin.

In a statement on Wednesday, the US Embassy in Yaoundé expressed deep condolences to the Cameroonian government and described the attack as a heinous act of terrorism.

“The United States Embassy in Yaoundé condemns the heinous March 24 terrorist attack against Cameroonian soldiers serving in Nigeria in support of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin,” the statement read.

The embassy praised the soldiers’ dedication and sacrifice in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing their role in ensuring regional security.

“The dedication and sacrifice of these soldiers in the fight against terrorism stand as a powerful testament to their unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Cameroon and the region. They will not be forgotten, and their legacy will continue to inspire future generations. We stand with all Cameroonians as they mourn the loss of their fellow citizens,” the statement added.

The attack occurred on March 24, when Boko Haram insurgents stormed a military base in Wolgo, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria. The assault led to a deadly gun battle, resulting in the deaths of dozens of soldiers.

The Multinational Joint Task Force, which includes troops from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Benin, was established to combat Boko Haram and other terrorist threats in the region.
