The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has re-arraigned a professor in Edo State over allegations of selling fraudulent degrees and forging academic documents.
According to the ICPC, the accused allegedly engaged in the illegal issuance of degrees from an unaccredited institution, deceiving unsuspecting individuals seeking higher education qualifications. The commission further stated that the professor was involved in forging academic records to validate these fake degrees.
The re-arraignment took place at the Federal High Court in Benin City, where the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution presented evidence indicating a pattern of fraudulent activities aimed at exploiting students and job seekers.
The ICPC emphasized its commitment to tackling corruption in the education sector, warning that those involved in academic fraud would face the full weight of the law. The court has scheduled further hearings while the professor remains in custody pending bail considerations.
