The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to national security while celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with wounded soldiers at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
During a Sallah Luncheon on Sunday, hosted for sick and wounded personnel as well as troops deployed in 1 Division’s Area of Responsibility, Oluyede—represented by Maj.-Gen. Abdul Ibrahim, Commander Infantry Corps—praised the soldiers’ sacrifices and assured them that they remain a top priority.
Acknowledging Sacrifices and Progress
The Army Chief noted that many of the injured personnel sustained their wounds during military operations in the northeast and northwest, including Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Fansanyamma.
Highlighting ongoing security efforts, he reaffirmed the Army’s determination to secure the country, citing successes in clearing the Kano-Abuja corridor.
“We are making significant gains in our operations and will continue until our country is fully secured,” he stated.
Despite acknowledging challenges and setbacks, Oluyede expressed optimism, attributing recent successes to the resilience, alertness, and determination of the troops.
Security Situation and Achievements in 1 Division
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, described the security landscape in the division’s jurisdiction as volatile, complex, and unpredictable. However, he emphasized that stability has been maintained, particularly along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari and Abuja-Kaduna road and rail corridors.
Saraso further revealed that:
- Several kidnapped victims have been rescued and released unconditionally.
- Many bandits have surrendered due to proactive kinetic and non-kinetic military strategies.
“These modest successes have been achieved through the dedication and sacrifices of our gallant troops,”Saraso added.
Commitment to Troop Welfare and Morale
In line with the COAS’s command philosophy, Saraso stressed the importance of keeping troops motivated, ensuring they remain dedicated and effective in their duties.
He explained that the Sallah Luncheon was not just a symbolic gesture but a genuine show of appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices of the soldiers.
The Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD), Brig.-Gen. Godwin Ogoh, also commended the COAS for his unwavering commitment to soldiers’ welfare.
“The luncheon is more than a leadership gesture; it is a message of solidarity, care, and deep respect for those who have sacrificed for our nation,” Ogoh stated.
He emphasized that the event lifted morale and reinforced the values of courage, sacrifice, and unity among the troops.
“To our brave soldiers who bear the scars of battle with dignity, your resilience is an inspiration to us all,”Ogoh concluded.
With this renewed commitment, the Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its mission to secure the nation while ensuring the well-being of its personnel.
