On X (formerly Twitter), Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced that he and National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu attended the Intelligence Community Committee’s (ICC) Expanded Meeting on Monday. The meeting’s main objectives were strengthening frameworks for intelligence sharing and national security.

In his post, the minister confirmed:

“Today, I joined the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, at the Expanded Meeting of the Intelligence Community Committee (ICC) where we discussed extensively on how to enhance national security and intelligence sharing in our quest to achieve a safer nation.

The meeting saw the convergence of key stakeholders, including the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and Heads of Security Agencies.”

Senior representatives from important security agencies joined the ICC to examine Nigeria’s intelligence infrastructure and pinpoint critical areas for cooperation. According to reports, topics covered include ways to increase coordination at the federal and state levels, unified threat response, and information exchange channels.

The involvement of the NSA and the Interior Minister indicates a joint effort to operationalise intelligence-led tactics and harmonise national security plans. Long-term interagency cooperation, according to analysts, may provide a more robust defence against intricate transnational threats and internal instability.

Stakeholders are optimistic that the suggestions made at Monday’s meeting would be quickly implemented as the ICC’s conversation moves forward, strengthening Nigeria’s security framework and restoring public trust in the government’s attempts to protect the country.
