Bello Matawalle, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence and former governor of Zamfara State, is confident that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term in office. Speaking in a recent interview, Matawalle stated that the president’s performance so far speaks volumes and that, barring any major upheaval, Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is essentially guaranteed.

His conviction is based on what he describes as Tinubu’s decisive and reform-driven leadership. According to Matawalle, the president has faced serious challenges but has also shown the will to address them head-on. “The policies he’s implementing may be tough in the short term,” Matawalle said, “but they are necessary for the country’s long-term stability.”

While there has been growing public discomfort over inflation, subsidy removal, and economic uncertainty, Matawalle believes that these are temporary setbacks. He emphasized that the administration needs time to deliver lasting results and that the opposition underestimates the resilience of Tinubu’s support base. In his view, by the time 2027 arrives, Nigerians will see enough progress to confidently return Tinubu to office
