In an emotional moment during a church service, Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, opened up about a terrifying experience in the air that could have ended in tragedy. Speaking to the congregation, Wike recalled how the private aircraft carrying him and two of his friends suddenly suffered engine failure shortly after takeoff.

According to Wike, everything seemed normal as the plane took off. But within 15 minutes, the atmosphere shifted. A strange sound rippled through the cabin, catching the attention of the passengers. A flight attendant later confirmed their worst fear: one of the plane’s engines had failed midair.

The pilot quickly advised that they return to base, a standard safety measure but one that drove home the seriousness of the situation. Wike described the panic and fear among the passengers. One of his friends whispered that he hadn’t even told his wife he was traveling. The reality of how quickly things can turn hit everyone in that moment.

Wike said they did what anyone would do when faced with possible death: they prayed. The minister admitted he prayed like never before, calling on divine protection. And according to him, God answered.

The plane made a safe emergency landing. No one was injured. For Wike, it was more than a technical save, it was spiritual. “It was prayer that saved us,” he told the church, his voice thick with emotion. The moment has since gone viral, with many online sharing his testimony as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the power of prayer in times of crisis.
