The World Trade Organisation (WTO), led by Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has warned that the ongoing global tariff war is causing significant harm to the international economy. In a recent statement, the WTO cautioned former U.S. President Donald Trump and other global leaders against protectionist policies that risk undermining trade stability and economic recovery.

Okonjo-Iweala emphasized the need for cooperation, open markets, and reform rather than retaliatory tariffs, which she said could lead to fragmentation of global trade and prolonged economic downturns.

The WTO is calling for renewed dialogue and collective action to address trade disputes in a way that strengthens, rather than weakens, the global economy.

The WTO’s warning about the tariff war makes total sense, we need to work together, not shut each other out.
