Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in PDP’s Samuel Anyanwu’s Appeal

Abuja, Nigeria – The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Monday reserved judgment in the appeal filed by Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging his removal from office.

Anyanwu is seeking to overturn the decision of the Court of Appeal, Enugu, which upheld the December 20, 2024 verdict of the Federal High Court that removed him and recognized Sunday Udey-Okoye as the new PDP National Secretary.

In a 10-ground appeal filed through his counsel, Ken Njemanze (SAN), Anyanwu urged the apex court to set aside the lower court’s ruling and reinstate him to office.

The Supreme Court, after hearing arguments from both parties, announced that it would communicate a date for its judgment in the case.

The legal battle over the PDP secretary position has further deepened internal disputes within the opposition party, with implications for its leadership and future political direction.

More updates will follow as the court prepares to deliver its final ruling.

The Supreme Court’s decision to reserve judgment in Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s appeal concerning his removal as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) underscores the complexity of internal party disputes and their legal ramifications. Anyanwu’s challenge to the concurrent judgments of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which upheld his removal following his resignation to contest the Imo State governorship election, highlights the intricate balance between individual ambitions and party constitutional provisions. The legal arguments presented by both parties reflect deep-seated issues within the PDP, and the forthcoming judgment will likely have significant implications for the party’s leadership dynamics and internal governance.
