Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has honoured nine indigenes of the state who distinguished themselves through exceptional service across Nigeria, announcing their automatic employment into the Abia State Civil Service.

In a statement shared on his verified X handle on September 17, 2025, Governor Otti said the recognition was in appreciation of their achievements as recipients of the Presidential NYSC Honour Award, a prestigious recognition reserved for corps members whose service demonstrates outstanding dedication, creativity, and impact.

The awardees are:

Nwogu Chinonso

Anyanwụ Promise

Ezieme Francis Uba

Emmanuel Ogbenyealu Ezinne

Abia Chinwendu Grace

Nwafike Esther Chiemela

Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark

According to the NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Barrister Gladys Adama, the honourees distinguished themselves in their various places of primary assignment, many of which were outside their home state. Out of over a hundred recognised corps members nationwide, Abia stood out with nine award recipients, making it the leading state.

Governor Otti also commended the NYSC Coordinator for her efforts in mentoring and identifying the honourees.

“To the Coordinator, thank you for your tireless work and for bringing these champions to our attention. And to the awardees: may your journey in public service be marked by the same distinction that brought you national honour,” he said.

The announcement has been widely welcomed as a strong encouragement for excellence and a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to rewarding merit and service to the nation.
