Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has disclosed that U.S. President Donald Trump has expanded his demands in ongoing ceasefire negotiations, now seeking control over Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
Trump’s Ceasefire Conditions Evolve
Initially focused on securing mineral deals, Trump has reportedly shifted his attention toward the country’s energy infrastructure. According to Zelenskyy, this was revealed following a recent phone conversation between the two leaders.
Focus on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant
During his war briefing on Wednesday, Zelenskyy mentioned that discussions centered on a single power plant currently under Russian occupation. He was referring to Zaporizhzhia, the largest nuclear power station in Europe.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed a change in approach, stating that the U.S. had moved past negotiations involving Ukraine’s mineral resources. “We are now focused on a long-term peace agreement,” said White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
Diplomatic Talks Continue
Trump’s call with Zelenskyy came a day after his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which Moscow reportedly agreed to halt strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities. The development marks a significant turn in diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict.
