Ruger and Joeboy in Supremacy Battle Ahead of Album Releases

Nigerian music stars Ruger and Joeboy have stirred up a heated supremacy battle on social media as they prepare to release their respective albums on March 28.

The drama began when Ruger took to X (formerly Twitter) to boast about the quality of his upcoming sophomore album, “Blown Boy Ru”, suggesting that some artists would need to return to the studio after hearing it, while others—who were dropping their albums on the same day—wouldn’t even get the chance.

“Some people will have to go back to the studio after they hear this album, some people won’t even have the chance to coz they dropping the same day as me. Sad! #blownboyru”

Fans quickly speculated that Ruger was referring to Joeboy, who is set to drop his own album, “Viva Lavida”, on the same day.

Shortly after, Joeboy seemingly responded with a cryptic post of his own, implying that some artists were competing with him unnecessarily.

“The sky is big enough for everyone to fly but some people are choosing to fly right beside me lol. I get it, I inspire you.”

This subtle exchange has fueled excitement and debate among fans, many of whom believe the two are subtly taking shots at each other.

Not the First Release Date Clash

This isn’t the first time Nigerian artists have had a clash over release dates.

In May 2022, fans of Burna Boy and Davido went head-to-head after both artists dropped singles on the same day—Burna Boy’s “Last Last” and Davido’s “Stand Strong”.

At first, Davido celebrated as his song topped Apple Music charts, but Burna Boy later rejoiced when “Last Last” overtook it, proving how competitive the Nigerian music industry can be.

With both Ruger and Joeboy set to drop their albums simultaneously, fans are now watching closely to see whose project dominates the charts.
