The Rotary Club of Ikeja, Government Reserved Area (GRA), has inaugurated Abigail Akano as its 14th President, marking a new phase of leadership for the club. The official investiture ceremony was held on September 14, 2025, at the Suru Express Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
The event brought together prominent personalities, Rotarians, community leaders, and supporters of the club in an atmosphere of celebration and renewed commitment to service. Guests enjoyed entertainment and camaraderie, with members dancing in honour of their newly installed president.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were District Governor Henry Akinyele, District Governor-Elect Bukola Bakare, and several past presidents of the club, including Akinkunmi Soyoye, Marcel Egbagbor, Ayodeji Odeleye, Adeshina Adeyemi, and Babatunde Abinibi, alongside the immediate past president, Chinedum Amachi. Also present was Rotarian Tolulope Apanisile and other distinguished members.
The ceremony, chaired by Olasunkanmi Ogunsemowo, was further graced by special guests of honour, including Engineer Adesola Ebenezer Alaba, Engr. Larry Ejikeme, Mr. Malachi, Mrs. Esther Okeke, Mrs. Oge Akano, Mr. Kunle Shadipe, and Mr. Tayo.
In her acceptance speech, President Abigail Akano expressed gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility:
“It is with deep gratitude and humility that I stand before you as the President of Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA for the 2025–2026 Rotary Year. I am truly honored by the confidence you have placed in me, and I do not take this for granted.”
She commended her predecessor, IPP Chinedum Amachi, for his dedication and leadership, pledging to continue building on his achievements.
“Leadership to me is not a position; it is a responsibility and a call to service, and I pledge to serve with integrity and transparency,” she added.
With her investiture, President Akano is expected to guide the club toward impactful humanitarian projects, innovative initiatives, and deeper alignment with Rotary International’s values of service, fellowship, and integrity.
The Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, renowned for its commitment to community development and humanitarian causes, anticipates a vibrant and inspiring Rotary year under her stewardship.
