President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on his way back to Abuja after concluding a state visit to Brazil aimed at deepening relations between both countries.

According to the Statehouse press release on August 27, 2028, conveyed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidential aircraft departed the Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at 12:57 p.m. local time. At the airport to bid him farewell were Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s envoy to Nigeria.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, alongside other senior officials, was also in attendance. A brief departure ceremony featured a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.

Tinubu arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, where he was accorded a red-carpet welcome and full military honours at the Palácio do Planalto. During the visit, he held talks with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and top Brazilian government officials.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture—areas central to Nigeria’s development priorities.
