The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a public clarification dismissing viral claims circulating on social media regarding the use of certain Nigeria Police Force to detect or remove hackers from mobile phones.

In a statement released on its official X handle, the Force warned that the message suggesting that dialing #61# or ##002# could protect users from hackers did not originate from the police.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that the recent message circulating about using USSD codes #61# and ##002# to detect and remove phone hackers is NOT an official communication from the Force,” the statement read.

The NPF advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify any such information through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to misinformation.

The statement further urged the public to take proper online safety measures, stressing that digital security requires caution and awareness rather than reliance on unverified codes or messages.
