The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed it is actively investigating a disturbing video circulating on social media, which shows a woman allegedly giving alcohol to a young child.
In a post made via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the police acknowledged being aware of the video, originally posted by an X user identified as @ChuksEricE, and described the act as both illegal and dangerous.
“We are aware of this distressing video and are investigating urgently. Exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and dangerous. We urge @ChuksEricE and any member of the public with valuable information that could lead to the swift apprehension of this “mother” to not hesitate to provide same. They can reach out to us on 09169967000. The child’s safety is our priority,” the police wrote.
The video, which has sparked outrage across social media, shows a woman reportedly giving a minor an alcoholic beverage packaged in a sachet to consume as a routine to get the child to sleep. Reacting swiftly, the police said they have launched an urgent investigation to identify and apprehend the woman involved.
As of the time of filing this report, the woman in the video has not been identified. The police reiterated their unwavering commitment to child protection, stressing that exposing children to harmful substances such as alcohol violates Nigerian child welfare laws and endangers the physical and mental health of minors.
