Former presidential candidate Peter Obi didn’t hold back during a live interview on Arise TV, where he questioned the Federal Government’s focus on flashy infrastructure projects while insecurity continues to plague the country.
“Securing a country is far more fundamental than building roads,” Obi said. “Rufai, are you saying a coastal road is more important than securing Nigeria?”
His comments were in response to discussions around the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, a multi-billion-naira project that has stirred controversy over its timing and relevance. Many Nigerians have voiced concerns that the government is investing heavily in roads while people across the country face daily threats from kidnappers, bandits, and insurgents.
Obi, known for his emphasis on security and economic development, made it clear that without safety and stability, roads and infrastructure projects mean very little.
He has been one of the most vocal critics of the current administration’s priorities and once again called for a national focus on protecting lives before pouring money into concrete.
The Presidency has yet to respond to his remarks.
