Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to human capital development with a visit to Philomena College of Nursing Sciences in Benin City, Edo State, on Monday, July 7, 2025. In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi announced a personal donation of ₦15 million to the institution, aimed at enhancing healthcare training and delivery.
Obi emphasized that for Nigeria to experience true progress, the nation must invest in healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation—pillars he described as fundamental to any modern, thriving society.
“To aid their ongoing work in training dedicated nurses and improving healthcare delivery, I made a modest contribution of ₦15 million,” Obi stated. “Such investments are among the most effective ways to build a better future.”
The former Anambra State governor said his visit to the college underscores his consistent support for institutions playing vital roles in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system. He commended the college’s management, staff, and students for their warm reception and unwavering dedication to building a healthier nation.
“A New Nigeria will emerge when we invest in our people and lift them out of poverty,” he added.
Philomena College of Nursing Sciences is known for its emphasis on high-quality training and has been instrumental in producing skilled healthcare professionals in the region.
Obi’s donation and advocacy come amid growing calls for increased investment in Nigeria’s healthcare and education sectors, especially as the country faces critical shortages in skilled medical personnel and a brain drain in the nursing profession.
The gesture has sparked widespread praise online, with many users lauding the former presidential candidate for his proactive leadership style and focus on impactful grassroots development.
