The PDP isn’t taking the Delta governor’s defection lightly. In fact, Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi called it “one of the most painful decisions taken by any governor in Nigeria’s history.”
Speaking on Arise News, Abdullahi didn’t hold back. He questioned the governor’s integrity and his decision-making. For him, this wasn’t just about politics—it was personal. “Why would you leave a state like Delta—a stable, well-run PDP state—for the APC?” he asked. “What has changed?”
Abdullahi’s frustration mirrors that of many PDP supporters who feel blindsided. Delta wasn’t in crisis. There wasn’t a popular clamor for change. The economy wasn’t failing. So, from their perspective, the move feels opportunistic, not strategic.
He also warned that the switch could hurt the state’s political credibility. “People need to understand the gravity of what just happened,” he said. “This isn’t about the governor alone—it’s about trust, legacy, and the soul of the party in the South.”
