Former First Lady Patience Jonathan has officially ended speculation about a possible return of Goodluck Jonathan to Nigeria’s political scene. At a public event, she confirmed that the former president will not contest in the 2027 elections and instead pledged her family’s full support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to Mrs. Jonathan, Tinubu and his wife Oluremi supported her husband’s 2011 campaign, and her family remains grateful. “We don’t forget those who stood by us,” she said. “Instead of running against him, we will work for him.”

This statement carries political weight, especially in the South-South region where Jonathan still commands significant influence. While some supporters may be disappointed, others see it as a wise move choosing alliance over rivalry in a deeply polarized political environment. For now, the Jonathans are making it clear: they’re not looking back, they’re looking forward with Tinubu.
