The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that an Aircraft Emergency Mock Exercise is set to commence today, July 31, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
In a public statement issued via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Keyamo informed the public that the exercise is a routine safety drill and urged citizens and travelers not to panic.
“This is just a mock exercise. There is no need to get apprehensive,” the Minister assured, adding that such drills are standard procedure to assess and improve emergency response readiness at Nigerian airports.
The simulation, which is expected to involve multiple emergency and security agencies, will test the coordination, preparedness, and effectiveness of airport personnel and rescue services in the event of a real aircraft emergency.
Authorities have advised residents in the vicinity of the airport and air travelers not to be alarmed by increased activity or the presence of emergency vehicles and personnel during the exercise.
The drill is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development to uphold international aviation safety standards and ensure rapid response capability in crisis scenarios.
Keyamo’s prior notification reiterate the government’s commitment to maintaining safety and operational excellence across all Nigerian airports.
