The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a former police constabulary officer who made threats of violent reprisals against Southerners in response to the killing of some officers in Edo State. The man, whose video went viral online, made inciting and ethnically charged statements, sparking public outrage.

According to a police statement, the individual had already been dismissed from the constabulary program and had no official standing in the force at the time of his comments. The police have emphasized that his views do not reflect those of the institution, and investigations are ongoing.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to national unity and warned that hate speech and incitement would not be tolerated.
