The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clinched the championship title of the 2025 NUJ FCT Football Tournament, reinforcing its tradition of excellence, discipline, and unity. The knockout tournament, which kicked off on August 18, 2025, was contested by teams made up of personnel aged 35 and above, with the NAF side emerging victorious after defeating formidable opponents in the final.

In a statement posted on its X handle, the NAF attributed the remarkable feat to the support and leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, whose philosophy continues to promote civil-military relations, peace, and national cohesion.

Ahead of the tournament, a 45-man contingent was mobilized and trained, from which 35 officers, airmen, and officials were carefully selected to represent the Force. Their skillful display and sportsmanship during the competition not only brought pride to the Service but also reflected the discipline, teamwork, and resilience nurtured through mission-oriented training under the CAS’s direction.

The football triumph marks NAF’s second major sporting achievement in August, coming shortly after its handball team won the Nigeria Handball Division One League, earning promotion to the premier league.

The dual victories, according to the statement, demonstrate Air Marshal Abubakar’s commitment to morale-boosting initiatives and fitness programs, backed by consistent financial and moral support. By fostering a sporting culture and engaging with the civilian population, the NAF continues to strengthen its bond with the public while projecting values of professionalism, unity, and service to the nation.
