The Presidency has announced that the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the United States Consulate are set to strengthen bilateral ties in digital innovation and cybersecurity, following a high-level courtesy visit by the newly appointed U.S. Consul General to Nigeria.
In a statement on its official X handle, the Presidency revealed that NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa, welcomed Mr. Richard E. Swart, the U.S. Consul General, to the Agency’s headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Thursday. The meeting aimed to explore new opportunities for collaboration in key areas of digital development, including digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and alignment with the U.S. AI Action Plan.
During the discussions, Inuwa provided a detailed briefing on NITDA’s mandate, achievements, and strategic priorities—initiatives that align closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also highlighted ongoing partnerships with major U.S. technology companies such as Google, Cisco, Meta, and Flutterwave, stressing the value of global cooperation in building a resilient and competitive digital economy.
According to the Presidency, the engagement reflects a shared commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation through strategic alliances and innovation-driven policies. Both sides expressed optimism about scaling up joint efforts in the near future to bolster Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
The visit marks a significant step in reinforcing U.S.–Nigeria relations in technology, with both nations pledging to work closely on projects that will enhance security, connectivity, and innovation.
