The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with Radio Tactics Group Limited, has concluded a nationwide specialized capacity training program on the Athena Forensic Intelligence Solution (AFIS) aimed at enhancing officers’ digital, forensic, and intelligence capabilities to combat cyber-related crimes.
According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on the official X handle of the NPF on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the training held between July 9 and August 15, 2025, featured 192 officers drawn from all 36 State Commands, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and 10 specialized formations.
The program was facilitated by experts from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) and Radio Tactics Group, who trained participants on advanced forensic and intelligence skills. These included threat identification, extracting and analyzing communication and location data from SIM cards, GPS and satellite devices, biometric capture, handling grey-market phones, and deploying forensic hotlists to match intelligence records with operational data.
“These mission-ready skills will significantly strengthen our officers’ response to cyber-related crimes and complex investigations nationwide,” the statement read.
In a related development, operatives of the NPF-NCCC arrested three suspects, Gbenga Samuel, Dele Titus, and Olalekan Oke, in Abuja and Lagos for cyberstalking, identity theft, and online fraud.
Investigations revealed that on July 18, 2025, the suspects hacked into a victim’s WhatsApp account, threatening to expose confidential information unless a ransom of ₦3 million was paid. Forensic analysis led to their arrest, recovery of the compromised account, and the uncovering of a larger organized cybercrime network currently under investigation.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to adopting modern and digitalized approaches in the fight against cybercrime. He further emphasized the importance of continuous training and re-training of personnel in line with global best practices to counter emerging security threats.
