Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for imposing additional sanctions on judges and prosecutors of the International Criminal Court (ICC), whom he described as “politicised.”
In a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Netanyahu wrote:
“Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for imposing further sanctions on the politicised judges and prosecutors.”
The Israeli leader has long criticised the ICC, accusing it of bias and unfairly targeting Israel over alleged war crimes in Palestinian territories. The latest U.S. sanctions, announced this week, extend earlier measures aimed at restricting the court’s officials from engaging in investigations involving American and allied personnel.
Netanyahu’s public endorsement underscores Israel’s alignment with Washington in opposing the ICC’s jurisdiction over their citizens, a stance both governments argue protects their sovereignty.
