A delegation from the North East Development Commission (NEDC) today carried out a pre-shipment inspection at Anhui Ankai Automobile Co. Ltd, a leading bus manufacturing facility in Hefei City, Anhui Province, China.

According to a statement shared on X by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, the visit followed the President’s earlier approval for the procurement of electric vehicles. The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s drive to promote clean energy, sustainable transportation, and improved mobility in the North East region.

Leading the delegation were Minister of State for Steel, Uba Maigari Ahmadu; Minister of State for Regional Development; NEDC Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed G. Alkali; and Honourable Usman Zannah, Chairman of the House Committee on NEDC.

The team was on-site to inspect the procured NEDC electric buses and accessories ahead of shipment to Nigeria. Other members of the delegation included ED Operations, Abdulsalam Yahaya Ahmed; Chief Mutiu Lawal; Benjamin Westley; Commission Secretary, Engr. Abubakar Ali; Acting GM RR, Ali Umar; and Head of Audit.

The delegation expressed satisfaction with the quality, technology, and readiness of the buses, commending Anhui Ankai Automobile Co., Ltd. for meeting international standards in manufacturing and assembly.

“This procurement marks a significant step in the NEDC’s commitment to deploying modern, eco-friendly transportation solutions that will enhance connectivity, reduce emissions, and support economic growth across the North East,” the statement read.
