Senator Ned Nwoko is not one who minces words, and his latest pronouncement is already sending tremors down the Delta political terrain. In a surprise twist, Nwoko claimed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is secretly trying to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) — a party that Nwoko argues is now the only way in realizing Anioma State, a long-dreamt desire of the Anioma people somewhere in Delta North.
Nwoko, who was reported to have migrated to the APC from the PDP, joined the APC in the light of strategic discussions with top APC leaders, including President Bola Tinubu. Nwoko himself stands for “not the usual run of politics, but a legacy and representation.” He believes that the creation of Anioma State is one goal too important to be left to ward loyalties.
But it is his claims of Oborevwori working “behind the scenes” to join the APC that have caused quite a stir.
“He is doing everything possible to switch sides, even though publicly he wants to appear committed to PDP,” Nwoko said. “The people around him are afraid of losing their grip on power. They’re standing in the way of Anioma’s future.”
Oborevwori’s camp has not directly responded but aides close to the governor have dismissed the charges as a distraction. Still, Nwoko’s comments further vitiate what is already a highly charged political environment in Delta where ethnic identities and power-sharing always simmer underneath.
This is more than just a party shift; it is a deeper realignment where issues of regional development, personal ambition, and party loyalty collide.
