Senator Ali Ndume has issued a pointed warning to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to tread carefully amid growing endorsements and assurances from political allies. He cited historical precedents as a reason for caution.

Speaking to journalists, Ndume recalled the 2015 scenario when 22 governors backed former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the election, yet he ultimately lost to Muhammadu Buhari.

“Endorsements are not votes,” Ndume stated bluntly. “You can have the support of every governor and still lose if the people aren’t on your side.”

His comments come as Tinubu’s political machinery ramps up efforts to secure influence ahead of upcoming elections and possible internal party shifts. Ndume, known for his unfiltered takes, suggested that the president focus more on performance and public sentiment than elite back-patting.

Analysts view the warning as a reflection of growing unease among some lawmakers about the administration’s political strategy and its grip on grassroots support.
