The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Sunday, August 24, 2025, commenced its Annual General Conference in Enugu with the theme “Stand Out, Stand Tall.”

In a statement marking the opening ceremony, the NBA said its President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), delivered a welcome address urging lawyers across the country to pursue excellence and demonstrate courage in the face of Nigeria’s socio-economic and institutional challenges.

“The theme of this year’s Conference is not just a slogan, but a call to service, resilience, and principled leadership,” Osigwe told delegates, stressing the legal profession’s role in shaping justice, governance, and accountability in Nigeria.

The ceremony drew a distinguished audience, including the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah; His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; past Presidents of the NBA; and the keynote speaker, Julius Sello Malema, President of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

Malema, in his address, delivered what the NBA described as a “thought-provoking” keynote, urging participants to embrace bold and transformative choices that can advance economic justice, social inclusion, and African sovereignty.

According to the Association, the 2025 conference will run for a week and feature “rich intellectual exchange, robust debates, and transformative conversations on law, governance, and national progress.”

The NBA Annual General Conference is the largest gathering of lawyers in sub-Saharan Africa and serves as a platform for setting the agenda on pressing legal and national issues.
