The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced plans to deepen defence cooperation with the Czech Republic as part of efforts to bolster national security, regional stability, and economic growth.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on August 19, 2025, the NAF disclosed that the agreement was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Czech Republic’s Junior Deputy Minister of Defence, Radka Konderlová, and her delegation to NAF Headquarters, Abuja. They were received by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.
Air Marshal Abubakar described the visit as a demonstration of the long-standing relationship between both countries, stressing that NAF’s transformation into a resilient and agile force has strengthened Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, piracy, and other security threats across the region.
In her remarks, Deputy Minister Konderlová reiterated her country’s commitment to expanding military and technological collaboration with Nigeria, noting that air defence remains central to national security. She identified Nigeria as one of the Czech Republic’s most important partners in Africa, while highlighting the partnership’s potential to advance human capital development, local industry participation, and broader economic growth.
Discussions between both parties centred on key areas of cooperation, including logistics support for the NAF’s L-39ZA fleet, overhaul and acquisition of Mi-series helicopters, aircraft technician training, and advancements in aerospace engineering, avionics, and unmanned aerial systems. NAF also expressed interest in working with Czech firms on cybersecurity, space technology, radar systems, counter-drone capabilities, and signal interception solutions.
Air Marshal Abubakar expressed optimism that the partnership, built on mutual trust and shared commitment to peace, would deliver sustainable benefits for both nations while contributing to Africa’s security architecture and global stability.
