MTN Nigeria has announced plans to construct its new headquarters in Eko Atlantic City, making it the first telecom company to establish a presence in the rapidly developing coastal metropolis.
MTN’s Commitment to Lagos
MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola revealed the plans during the launch of MyLagosApp, a digital platform designed to improve access to essential services in Lagos. He emphasized the company’s long-term investment strategy in the city.
“As part of this commitment, we have acquired a piece of land in Eko Atlantic City, and we will commence construction once we have gotten the equipment,” Toriola stated. However, he did not provide specific details on the timeframe or financial aspects of the project.
Eko Atlantic: A Growing Financial Hub
MTN’s move aligns with a growing trend of major corporations relocating to Eko Atlantic City. The area has already attracted notable companies such as First Bank, Shell, and the Dangote Group.
Recently, First Bank held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new 43-story headquarters, which will be the tallest building in Nigeria. The event was attended by key figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Aliko Dangote, and Femi Otedola.
Similarly, the Dangote Group, led by Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, has confirmed plans to relocate its headquarters to Eko Atlantic City. Dangote lauded First Bank’s initiative, emphasizing the city’s potential as Nigeria’s financial epicenter.
Eko Atlantic’s Rise as a Commercial Powerhouse
Eko Atlantic City is built on 10 million square meters of reclaimed land from the Atlantic Ocean and is designed as a self-sustaining metropolis. The city is expected to house 250,000 residents and accommodate up to 150,000 daily commuters.
With sustainability-focused infrastructure and its status as a growing business hub, Eko Atlantic City is fast becoming the go-to location for Nigeria’s top firms. MTN’s decision to join this wave further reinforces the city’s significance in the country’s economic landscape.
