The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on August 12, 2025, received the Joint House Committee on Alleged Cases of Certificate Racketeering, chaired by Honourable Abubakar Hassan Fulata, to deliberate on measures to protect the integrity of Nigerian citizenship documentation.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, the Minister disclosed that discussions focused on tackling certificate racketeering, which undermines the credibility of academic and citizenship records.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing robust verification systems to ensure that only legitimate citizens with verified credentials benefit from national opportunities.
The meeting also underscored the importance of integrating data systems to close loopholes that racketeers often exploit.
“We are committed to aligning with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda by establishing a unified system for tracking academic and citizenship records,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
He further expressed the Ministry’s resolve to address systemic vulnerabilities within Nigeria’s citizenship and educational frameworks, prioritising integrity and data integration with the ultimate goal of restoring public confidence in the nation’s institutions.
