The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has confirmed the remand of one Chidinma Obishe following her arrest for violating pedestrian rules and violently attacking enforcement officers.

Wahab made the disclosure via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, stating that Obishe had refused to use the pedestrian bridge at Ojota, a major traffic hub in Lagos, and physically assaulted sanitation personnel when confronted.

“Chidinma Obishe resisted arrest when she was apprehended for not using the pedestrian bridge at Ojota. She violently attacked some of our personnel. The Magistrate Court sitting at Bolade has remanded her in prison till 8 July, 2025 when her case will be heard,” he said.

Action is a clear indication that the state will no longer tolerate disregard for environmental laws and public safety regulations, stressing that enforcement operations will continue across the state to curb dangerous road behaviour.

Obishe’s arrest and subsequent arraignment come amid an ongoing crackdown by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and other state agencies to ensure pedestrian compliance and reduce accidents caused by jaywalking, particularly on highways and motorways.

Eyewitnesses reported that Obishe allegedly hurled verbal insults and struck one of the officers during the altercation before being subdued and taken into custody.

She has since been arraigned before a magistrate court in Lagos, where she was ordered to be remanded in custody pending further hearing.
