The tension inside the Labour Party has officially boiled over. On Monday, May 12, 2025, the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, took the gloves off and issued a pointed warning to Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

“Don’t provoke me into revealing what I know,” Abure said, speaking during an appearance on Symfoni TV. It was a strong statement that sounded less like politics and more like a personal call-out. His tone made it clear that the internal conflict within the Labour Party is now a full-blown power struggle.

Abure accused both Obi and Governor Alex Otti of working against the party’s constitution. He claimed they were involved in creating what he described as an illegal caretaker committee meant to bypass or undermine the party’s leadership structure.

Backing him up, the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee has issued its own stern message to Obi and Otti. The two have been ordered to stop any activities considered anti-party or face disciplinary action. The party leadership is clearly not in the mood for negotiations. They are making it clear that no matter how prominent a figure is, the rules apply to everyone.

This rift is more than a policy disagreement. It is about control, loyalty, and the direction of a party that made major political waves just a year ago. The coming weeks could determine whether the Labour Party can survive the fight between its most influential figures or whether it fractures completely.
