Reports suggesting that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso might be planning a return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have triggered unrest within political circles in Kano and beyond. The speculation has rattled members of both his current party—the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)—and his former allies in the APC, raising concerns about trust and loyalty.

Kwankwaso, a former governor and a significant political force in Northern Nigeria, left the APC under tense circumstances and played a central role in the 2023 elections under the NNPP banner. His possible return to the APC is being seen by some as a betrayal of the movement he helped build. Former Kano State Commissioner Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso (no relation) warned that bringing the senator back into the fold could lead to serious disunity within the party.

However, Rabiu Kwankwaso has denied the rumors, saying he has no intention of rejoining the APC. He reaffirmed his commitment to the NNPP, calling it the future of Nigerian politics. Despite his denial, the rumors haven’t died down—especially with some APC figures reportedly pushing for his return to strengthen the party ahead of 2027.

The situation reflects deeper fractures in Nigerian politics, where party loyalty often bends to electoral strategy. But in Kano, a politically sensitive state, moves like this can stir unrest quickly. For now, all eyes remain on Kwankwaso, who seems to hold more cards than he’s letting on.
