Kenneth Okonkwo, a respected Nigerian actor and outspoken political voice, has once again captured national attention with his blunt assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In a no-holds-barred interview with Arise News, Okonkwo painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s current state, stating, “The only thing President Tinubu has given Nigeria is tears and blood.”
For millions of Nigerians, Okonkwo’s words hit home. Since Tinubu assumed office, the country has been battered by worsening economic hardship, relentless insecurity, and a growing sense of disillusionment. Promises of economic reforms and national rejuvenation have instead translated into soaring food prices, fuel scarcity, naira instability, and a standard of living that keeps plummeting by the day. Many who once gave Tinubu the benefit of the doubt now feel abandoned and angry.
Okonkwo went further, openly rejecting the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party under which Tinubu rose to power. “I reject APC as presently constituted. It is a party that has not lived up to its promise, a party that has inflicted Nigerians with hunger and hardship, and a party that does not recognise our diversity,” he declared. His comments reflect a growing perception that the APC, once a symbol of hope for change, has become out of touch with the realities faced by everyday Nigerians.
Across the country, voices like Okonkwo’s are growing louder, capturing a national frustration that leaders seem increasingly unwilling — or unable — to address. For many, his words aren’t just political rhetoric; they are a mirror of their lived reality. Tears and blood. Hunger and hardship. These aren’t just phrases. They are the daily experiences of a nation still waiting for real change.
