Kenneth Okonkwo, once a strong voice for the Labour Party and Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, has stirred fresh controversy by claiming that the votes Obi officially received were not truly won at the ballot but were allocated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Speaking candidly in a recent interview, Okonkwo expressed deep frustration over what he described as a grand manipulation of the electoral process.
According to him, the results announced for Obi were not a reflection of the people’s will but figures handed down by INEC to manage appearances. He argued that Peter Obi’s real support across the country was far more substantial, but that through systemic irregularities, voter suppression, and outright rigging, the true mandate was buried. Okonkwo insisted that had the votes been accurately counted, Obi would have been declared the rightful winner or at least shown to have performed at a much higher level than recorded.
His comments have reignited anger among many of Obi’s supporters who believe the 2023 elections were far from free and fair. Okonkwo’s accusations also deepen public distrust in Nigeria’s electoral system, raising calls once again for comprehensive electoral reforms. Many are left wondering how long Nigerians must continue to endure manipulated outcomes that silence the true voices of the people.
