The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is working effectively in the ongoing by-elections across parts of the country.
In a post shared on its verified X handle on Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Commission posted an image of an elderly voter undergoing the BVAS facial recognition process at a polling unit in Ward 12, Ikenga, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State.
According to INEC, the smooth operation of the technology reflects its commitment to ensuring credible, transparent, and hitch-free elections.
The Commission added that accreditation and voting have been proceeding without major disruptions, with officials on ground monitoring compliance with electoral guidelines.
The BVAS, introduced to enhance voter authentication and curb multiple voting, has been a central feature of Nigeria’s recent elections, and its performance continues to draw close public scrutiny.
Observers, political stakeholders, and civil society groups are expected to provide further updates as the by-election progresses.
