The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced a strategic collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to deliver affordable housing for police officers across the country.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and posted on the Police’s official X handle on August 19, 2025, the initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, to Force Headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, the Minister, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib M. L. Belgore, and other senior officials, commended the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism, resilience, and service to the nation. He revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark housing scheme aimed at providing thousands of affordable housing units to police officers nationwide.
Dangiwa further proposed the establishment of a National Task Force, comprising relevant ministries and agencies in collaboration with the Police, to secure federal government assets and recover encroached lands that have hindered critical development projects.
Responding, the IGP described the housing initiative as a major step toward addressing one of the most urgent welfare needs of police personnel. He stressed that welfare is central to effective policing, noting that access to affordable housing would boost officers’ morale and efficiency in delivering on their constitutional duties.
Egbetokun also pledged the Police Force’s full support for the proposed National Task Force, describing the recovery and protection of federal government lands as a matter of urgent national importance. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to professionalism, excellence, and national service while ensuring that the welfare of officers remains a top priority.
