In a bold and morale-boosting step, the Nigeria Police Force is set to celebrate integrity, courage, and exceptional service, as the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, prepares to decorate select officers recently approved for promotion by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
This significant development, confirmed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a press release on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), is described as more than just a promotion exercise — it is a public endorsement of excellence and institutional pride.
“These promotions are not just career advancements; they are national salutes to officers who, despite the odds, chose the path of integrity, went the extra mile, and reminded us all what true service looks like,” the statement read.
The ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 12 noon, will be held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The highlight of the event will be the decoration of two standout officers:
CSP Shaba Aliyu, named Police Officer of the Year 2023, who is promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with effect from December 31, 2023.
SP Sentome Obi, Police Officer of the Year 2024, who is promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) with effect from December 31, 2024.
The promotions align with an earlier public commitment made in Press Release No. CZ:5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/472 dated 25th July 2025, which pledged accelerated promotion for officers who had been recognized for their exceptional service in two consecutive award years.
To underscore the significance of the event, IGP Egbetokun has ordered the deployment of the Police jet to fly ACP Shaba and CSP Sentome to Abuja for their formal decoration. Their photographs have also been prominently displayed at the main entrance of Force Headquarters, and similar instructions have been issued for their images to be showcased at Zonal and State Command Headquarters.
In addition to the two officers, other recipients of back-to-back Police awards and multiple commendations — including Staff Officers at the IGP Secretariat — are also beneficiaries of this promotion wave.
“This is what institutional pride looks like. This is how trust is built, from within,” the Force stated, reaffirming its commitment to a culture where honour is celebrated, and excellence is expected.
The move is part of a broader reform strategy under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, aimed at elevating professionalism, boosting morale, and reinforcing a culture of meritocracy within the Force.
“To our officers across the country: this is your reminder that the job is not thankless. Your sacrifices are seen. Your integrity will not go unnoticed. The Nigeria Police Force, under the current leadership, is committed to ensuring that professionalism is not just praised — but promoted.”
As Nigeria continues to demand more from its law enforcement institutions, the recognition and reward of those who embody the best of the Force signals a clear message: Excellence is not the exception — it is the standard.
