In a decisive move to strengthen the fight against violent crimes and enhance intelligence capabilities, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has announced the acquisition of state-of-the-art technological devices and applications for the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a press release by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared on the NPF’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, the new technologies are designed to assist in crime detection, prevention, and the swift arrest of criminals nationwide.
As part of the broader reform agenda under his leadership, IGP Egbetokun has also ordered the commencement of intensive training programs for TIU personnel. These programs aim to ensure officers are fully equipped to operate the newly deployed tools in line with global intelligence and security standards.
“These rigorous training programs are designed to equip officers with the prerequisite knowledge to operate the newly deployed technologies, ensuring the Force remains adaptable and capable in the face of evolving criminal trends and practices,” the statement noted.
The Inspector-General emphasized that this strategic upgrade reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to modernizing law enforcement and staying ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.
“The Nigeria Police Force, under my leadership, remains fully dedicated to emplacing effective measures to prevent crimes and criminality across the country. Nigerians can be assured of a robust response to emerging security threats,” IGP Egbetokun stated.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to reform and professionalize the Force’s intelligence operations, with a focus on leveraging digital tools and cutting-edge surveillance systems to enhance national security and protect lives and property.
The deployment of the advanced technologies and the TIU training program come at a time of heightened concern over violent crimes and insurgency in various regions of the country. The Police Force says it remains committed to evolving with the demands of modern policing in a rapidly changing world.
