Heung-min Son, one of Tottenham Hotspur’s modern legends, has officially announced his departure from the club after a memorable decade-long spell, where he scored 162 goals and recently captained the team to Europa League glory.

The news was first reported by renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed Son’s decision via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, August 2, 2025.

“Heung-min Son has decided to leave Tottenham this summer,” Romano posted. “The player has informed Spurs management and also new manager Thomas Frank. Negotiations underway with MLS side LAFC after he was also approached by Saudi clubs in May.”

Now 33 years old, the South Korean forward is set to begin a new chapter in Major League Soccer, with talks progressing between Son and Los Angeles FC (LAFC). The move comes after earlier interest from Saudi Pro League clubs earlier this year.

Son, who arrived at Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, quickly became a fan favourite for his blistering pace, tireless work ethic, and clinical finishing. Over the years, he evolved into one of the Premier League’s most consistent and respected forwards.

In the 2024/25 season, Son played a pivotal role in leading Spurs to Europa League victory, their first major European title in decades, cementing his legacy at the North London club. His leadership as captain during that campaign was widely praised by fans, teammates, and pundits alike.

In a statement expected to be released in the coming days, Son is anticipated to thank the fans, the club, and his teammates for their support throughout his remarkable Spurs journey.

Tottenham, now under the leadership of newly appointed manager Thomas Frank, will look to the future without one of their most iconic figures of the past decade. While his departure marks the end of an era, fans will celebrate Son’s loyalty, humility, and unforgettable moments in a Spurs shirt.

If finalized, the move to LAFC will bring one of Asia’s greatest football exports to American shores, where Son is expected to be a marquee player both on and off the field.
