Governor Mai Mala Buni says Yobe State, once a hotbed of insurgent activity, has now become one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. Speaking at a state security summit in Damaturu, Buni credited the transformation to improved security architecture, sustained collaboration between communities and security agencies, and proactive leadership at all levels.
“Peace doesn’t happen by accident,” Buni said. “It takes planning, commitment, and unity. Today, Yobe stands as a model of what is possible when people work together to reclaim their communities.”
Yobe was among the states hardest hit during the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency, with towns razed and thousands displaced. But in recent years, there has been a steady return to normalcy, with schools reopening, markets recovering, and roads once deemed dangerous now bustling with activity.
The governor emphasized that security will remain a top priority for his administration. He also appealed to the federal government and development partners to continue supporting efforts to consolidate peace and rebuild affected communities.
