Geremi Njitap is not convinced that Lionel Messi can carry Inter Miami to a Club World Cup title. The former Real Madrid and Chelsea star was blunt about it. In his view, Messi is still a legend, but he’s not a miracle worker. At nearly 38, the Argentine superstar doesn’t have the same speed or stamina he once had. More importantly, he doesn’t have the same kind of top-tier support he enjoyed at Barcelona or with Argentina.
“Messi is no longer young,” Geremi said. “And he’s not surrounded by great players like before. I don’t think they can win it.”
That may sound harsh, especially to Messi fans, but Geremi’s perspective is grounded in reality. Inter Miami may be growing as a club, but stepping onto the world stage is a whole different game. Talent, depth, and chemistry all matter—and so far, Miami hasn’t proven they have enough of any of those to go all the way.
Still, anything can happen in football. Some believe Messi’s leadership and vision could spark something special. But if Inter Miami is going to make history, they’ll need more than just one legend. They’ll need a full team ready to fight for every inch.
