The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday in honor of Workers’ Day, reaffirming its commitment to the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, who praised the resilience and dedication of the nation’s workforce.

Workers’ Day, observed annually on May 1, is a time to recognize the contributions of laborers across various sectors—from public servants and health workers to farmers and factory hands. The minister noted that despite economic challenges, Nigerian workers continue to be the backbone of national development.

He encouraged workers to use the holiday not only as a time to rest but also to reflect on the progress made and the work that still lies ahead in building a more equitable and prosperous nation. The government, he said, remains committed to improving labor conditions, supporting job creation, and strengthening worker protections across the country.

As the country marks this year’s Workers’ Day, rallies, parades, and public events are expected in major cities, led by trade unions and labor leaders. The holiday provides a moment of unity and recognition for those who keep Nigeria moving forward, day in and day out.
