The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the appointment of Dr. John Nwabueze as the Tax Ombudsman, in line with the provisions of the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement shared by the Presidency via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on November 5, 2025.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing commitment to implementing far-reaching and sustainable reforms in the nation’s tax and revenue administration system.

“The Federal Government has appointed Dr. John Nwabueze as the Tax Ombudsman, in accordance with the provisions of the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025.

This appointment aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to implementing far-reaching and sustainable reforms in the tax and revenue administration framework,” the Presidency stated.

Dr. Nwabueze, who hails from Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, brings a wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors to his new role.

Before his appointment, he served as the Managing Partner of a leading tax advisory firm, Technical Adviser to the Joint Senate Committees on the Federal Capital Territory and Finance in the National Assembly, and Technical Adviser to the Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, among other notable roles.

The creation and appointment of a Tax Ombudsman is seen as a key step in strengthening transparency, accountability, and dispute resolution mechanisms within Nigeria’s evolving tax administration landscape.
