EFCC Investigator: Emefiele Ignored Buhari’s Directive on Naira Redesign Contract

Abuja, Nigeria – A detective with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Chinedu Eneanya, has told the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama that former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, disregarded the directive of former President Muhammadu Buhari to award the 2022 naira redesign contract to a local contractor.

Testifying as the prosecution’s seventh witness, Eneanya stated that the presidential approval was completely ignored, leading to the contract being awarded against Buhari’s directive.

He also disclosed that four former CBN Deputy Governors—Adesonubi Folasodun, Adamu Edward, Kingsley Obiora, and Aisha Ahmed—were interrogated regarding their roles in the redesign process.

The case continues as the EFCC builds its case against Emefiele, who is facing multiple charges over his tenure as CBN governor.
