Abel Egerton Sokari, Nkiruka Chukwuma, and a firm, Zakah Global Investment Limited, were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the EFCC says the defendants were charged with six counts, including possession of bogus documents, forgery, and obtaining by false pretence, involving an astounding amount of 49 million euros (€49,000,000).
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, on Monday, July 7, 2025, arraigned Abel Egerton Sokari, Nkiruka Chukwuma, and a company, Zakah Global Investment Limited, before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on a six-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, possession of fraudulent documents, and forgery to the tune of Forty-Nine Million Euros (€49,000,000),” the statement read.
The EFCC claims that the defendants violated the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offences Act by allegedly participating in a complex conspiracy to swindle gullible victims by presenting falsified documents and fraudulent claims.
