Respected journalist and political commentator Dele Momodu has stirred conversation once again, this time with a sharp observation about the current state of Nigerian politics. According to Momodu, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is wielding such visible influence that it almost feels like the country has two presidents.
Momodu did not mince words. In his view, even Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has controlled the political landscape of Lagos since 1999, has not shown the same level of boldness or presence that Wike currently exhibits. It’s a statement that speaks volumes about Wike’s dominant style and his growing role in federal politics.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a key figure in the PDP, shocked many when he joined Tinubu’s government despite remaining officially in the opposition. That move alone gave him a unique position in the national power structure;someone who is both inside and outside the system at the same time.
Momodu’s comments point to what many Nigerians have noticed. Wike is not just managing the FCT. He is making decisions, taking political risks, and driving public conversations with a force that feels larger than his office. From controversial land revocations in Abuja to political clashes in Rivers, his fingerprints are everywhere.
While some admire his boldness and results-driven approach, others worry that such unchecked influence could destabilize the delicate political balance. Momodu’s warning seems clear. If one minister starts acting with presidential authority, who is really in charge?
