The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit Zone A, has reaffirmed its partnership with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to step up the fight against counterfeit and substandard goods in the country.
During a courtesy visit by NAFDAC officials on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, Comptroller Muhammed Shuaibu, Head of the Unit, highlighted the significance of the renewed collaboration, noting that it aligns with the vision of Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, to enhance inter-agency cooperation.
“When our CGC first assumed office, he emphasised consolidation and collaboration,” Shuaibu said. “Our synergy is not just with NAFDAC but with every government agency. I want to assure you that whatever agreement is signed at the top, we at the strategic level follow it up. The truth is, there is an urgent need to eradicate substandard products.”
NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martin Iluyomade, applauded CGC Adeniyi’s leadership, describing him as “a man with excellence in his DNA,” while noting that his vision led to the MoU between both agencies.
Similarly, the Director of Ports Inspection, Dr. Olakunle Olaniran, emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to meeting international standards, stressing that “there is no room for importing falsified products anymore, and perpetrators will have no choice but to channel their income to legitimate businesses.”
The visit ended with the formal handover of expired pharmaceutical products valued at ₦3.7 billion by Comptroller Shuaibu to NAFDAC, reinforcing the agencies’ shared determination to eliminate counterfeit and unsafe drugs from circulation.
